Dance

Get your groove on with fun and engaging dance classes designed to improve coordination, agility, and rhythm.

Dance with Dual Tasking (3/25/24)

DanceProof Your Body is back again for Brain Health month where we will incorporate dance with dual-tasking! 🧠

Dual-tasking refers to the ability to perform two tasks simultaneously, where one must coordinate their attention to both tasks while they are being performed.

Get ready to work on your mobility, balance, and coordination while challenging your cognitive abilities with a special “twist”!

Dance (11/13/23)

Dancing for Bone Health: Which dance moves can benefit bone health?

  • Jumping / Stomping: Jumping and stomping deliver a vertical load to our skeletal system through ground reaction forces (i.e. the ground “pushing back up at us”).

  • Clapping: Clapping provides impact through our upper body with muscles acting on each joint and the clap providing some force.

  • & More: Many other sorts of movement can benefit bone health. As we learned last week with Scott, muscles pull on our bones, bending them and stimulating new growth.

Dance (8/7/23)

John & James are back to lead a dance-focused exercise class to get our arms, legs, and hearts moving with the rhythm.

We’ll start with an EMOM that turns basic moves into simple exercises, followed by an introductory practice of the Waltz Box Step, using graceful & flowing steps in alignment with a 3/4 time signature.

Dance (4/3/23)

Today’s dance class with John worked on stepping and turning practice, in conjunction with April’s theme of Walking.

Beginning with a warm up practicing Silly Walks, we practiced the twists & steps involved in the “Walk It Out” dance, and applied it to other dance steps and formats.

Dance (10/10/22)

This week, John is going to continue using Cupid Shuffle as a base for class, while adding some more creative/advanced movements.

Dance can facilitate the expression of emotions and moods, as well as allow connection with another person or group of people. Dance can be a potent shared experience, and may help modulate the pain experience with improved physical and psychosocial function!

Dance (8/15/22)

This week, John leads a Dance class exploring the connection between posture and mental/emotional state.

Our external posture (how we stand or sit) can often reflect our internal state (how we feel). Dance is a great way to mobilize energy and emotion in the body while practicing balance, coordination, and agility.

We will also learn about “Power Poses”, a strategy of physical posturing to affect mentality or emotional state.

Dance (6/20/22)

In this class, we will focus on the synchronization of our movements and our physiologies together as a community.

We will review rhythm and tempo as the external anchors to which we can align our movements as a group, and introduce new science-backed strategies of using external stimuli to leverage the power of community for overall health!

Dance (2/28/22)

Human movement is rhythmic in nature. Whether it is our heart pumping, our lungs breathing, our legs stepping, or our fists pumping – all movements can have rhythm. Today, we’ll practice movement in our body with coordination and alignment using external rhythm (music or a metronome).

Dance (12/6/21)

First, we will review the steps from previous classes so we can warm up in style, including The Cupid Shuffle and Electric Slide.

Then we’ll be covering one of the most popular wedding line dances – The Cha Cha Slide!

Dance (10/11/21)

As we learned last time, moving to music is not only good for your cardiovascular health but can also help with balance, coordination, and mental health! We’ll be reviewing concepts of mindful movement through dance and learning some new steps along the way.

Dance (8/16/21)

This week we transform our living room into a dance floor, as John leads our first ever AgeProof Dance class. Incorporating popular dance moves such as the Tango and Cupid Shuffle, this class challenges our ability to keep our balance and our rhythm.
